The Cutest Shirt You've Ever Seen!

As you probably already know, I really love ruffles, and I really love to make cute shirts for my girl.  Now, put them both together and what do you get... the cutest Valentine's shirt you've ever seen in your life!  Totally adorable!  Now, here's how you do it.

Set your stitch length so that it sews a long stitch, and grab a very long strip of ribbon (seriously, at least a yard) and sew down the length of it twice, making sure to backstitch a few times at the beginning each time.

This is what your ribbon will look like.  The two stitch lines are right next to each other.

Now, pull both of the bobbin threads to create the ruffle.

Here's your long ruffle!

Now, pin your ruffled ribbon to your shirt in the shape of a heart and sew it to the shirt.  It doesn't have to be perfect.   In fact, I think it looks better when it's a little twisted.

Oh, and don't forget to seal the two ends of the ribbon with a lighter so that it doesn't fray.  All you need to do is get the end of the ribbon close to the flame (without setting it on fire) in order to seal it right up.  You'll be amazed at how it works if you've never done this before.

Now that you've made the cutest thing you've ever seen, sit back and have a Coke!

I just stumbled across your blog, and so glad that I did!!! I'm recently obsessed with all things "ruffle". I've been practicing all kinds, nothing ready for reveal. I still need lots of practice. This shirt is absolutely adorable. I haven't seen (or even thought of...) doing a ruffle with a ribbon. Now I have something else to try. I'm your newest follower!!

This is such a great idea! I love that you used ribbon--so easy and quick, but the end result is stunning!

I'll be showing this off in my new Show & Share party on Thursday. Please stop by and grab a "featured" button!

I'm in love with this shirt!! Seriously! I will be making one and posting on my blog....I will link it to your post. You rock! One question though...when I try to make a ruffle this way, I almost always tear my thread and it comes undone. Is my thread too thin/weak? Any suggestions?

I LOVE this! I am new to sewing, so when you sew the ribbon on the shirt, do you just go down the middle of the ribbon on the outside? I'm not sure how to sew it on without messing up the ruffles.

Love your blog! Just became a follower and I did try this tutorial last night. Had a really hard time ruffling the ribbon. The thread kept breaking when I pulled on it no matter how soft or hard I tried. Any tips??
