Super-Quick and Easy New Year’s Eve Decorations!

IMG_9739
Time to make the easiest,  most festive New Year’s Eve party decorations ever!
{There I go again with those superlatives… I just can’t help myself!}

IMG_9622
Start with a 12x12” piece of double-sided cardstock.

IMG_9623
Fold it in half.

IMG_9624
Cut slits in the paper’s folded side, leaving about 2 inches at the edge.  It doesn’t have to be perfect, at all.

IMG_9625
Open your paper, bring the edges together, and staple.

IMG_9627
Make a two small holes directly across from each other on one end.  I happen to have a tiny hole punch for this.  If you don’t have one, just use a toothpick (be careful) or something really small to make a hole.

IMG_9628
Use fishing string to thread through your two holes and tie the ends together.
Voila!
You’ve made a super-quick and festive decoration!

As always, take a Coke break… you deserve it (wink, wink)!

Kisses All Around!

IMG_9577

Since I don’t think there’s an “app” for this.  I thought I’d share mine with you.  Just take your laptop, Ipad, or smartphone over to your lovey-dovey and hold it over their head with this picture displayed.

You know what to do from here!

(kiss, kiss)

Here’s a Gift She’ll Tweet About.

IMG_9556
My younger son’s preschool class has 13 children, and I wanted the teacher’s Christmas gift to be personal and to reflect that.  So, I thought a bird’s nest necklace would be perfect because she is kind of like a mother bird to her class, and they are her little birds eager to learn.

IMG_9543
So, here’s a quick how-to:
Grab your jewelry tools, some 26 gauge silver-plated wire, and tiny pearl-like beads (I used the smallest ones I could find).

IMG_9544
Cut about 2  1/2 feet of wire and string your pearls on (I used 13 to represent each student in the preschool class), leaving about an inch at the beginning.

IMG_9546
Now fold them around into a circle.  Once they’re in the shape you like, I twisted the piece of wire at the beginning and the long piece together a few times and cut off that short piece.  It’s time to wrap the wire around and around until you’ve got your nest the way you want it.  Then take you wire and loop it under the wires and pull tightly three times.  Then move around the nest from where you just did that, and do the same.  Now, go 90 degrees and do the same thing again, and go across from that one, and do the same one last time.  Phew, that was totally redundant (sorry about that!).

In short, you will end up with you nest being secured together at four different points.

IMG_9551
Now that your nest has been secured, take you remaining wire and loop it one time around the top portion of the wire nest, and pull it up, and wrap around the base of your loop several times.  Then cut the remaining wire and tuck the sharp part away into the nest.

IMG_9555
Now your bird’s nest can hang from a chain.
The great thing about this project is that there’s no right or wrong way to make it.  So, just go with it.  Birds’ nests aren’t perfect, and each one is unique.  That’s the best part!
Now, go have a Coke.  It’s Santa’s drink of choice Winking smile

Another One for the Books!

IMG_9451

Anything odd sticking out in this picture?

Uh, why in the world are my boys sitting ON the dining room table, you ask?  Great question, and normally I don’t allow this.  However, when I walked into the room, their “Elf on the Shelf shenanigan” cracked me up.  They were literally playing a game of Elf on the Shelf (arms together and everything!).  So, of course, instead of yelling out, “Get off the table,” I said, “Don’t move. I’ve got to get the camera!”

What was your children’s latest shenanigan?

What a Year!

That’s me… (just kidding)!

One year ago, today, with a Coke in my hand, I sat before my computer and decided to “start a blog” because the house was sparkling and the laundry had all been done, and I had nothing else to do.

Wait a minute, what I meant to say was that I was daydreaming about a sparkling house and a laundry room that hadn’t “thrown up” into the hallway.

Anywho, even with all of the stuff a mom has to do on a daily basis, I still decided to throw up one more ball into the air and see if I could manage to let one of the other ones not fall right on my head.  Some days they all stay up there, and some days they don’t (i.e. I had to dry off on a beach towel the other day.  Please tell me you know what that means…lol).

So, for the last 365 days, it has been my pleasure play a small part in your world.  I started writing because I just wanted to share my thoughts, my laughter, and my creations with the world.  I didn’t know if anyone would ever read them, but I put them out there anyways.  As it turns out, some of you do read them, and I feel extremely privileged because of that!

I wish I could give you each a great big hug right now for helping to make this year so special!

Thank you so much for taking your Coke breaks here with me!

XOXO

Happy Birthday to my baby sister!  I hope you have a wonderful year full of lots of laughter and fun!

(You know we could just say that you’re turning 29, again…lol)

I love you, Sis!

Don’t Worry, It’s Not Diet.

IMG_9366

I love the new Coke cans; they’re raising awareness about the Arctic polar bears and their homes, and that is a great thing in my book, but it seems like everyone is up in arms about them.

Why?

Well, when we recently had people over, they were like, “Why are you drinking Diet Coke?”  Of course, I wasn’t.  It was just the white can that threw them off.  Now, I’ve heard people are begging Coke to switch back to the traditional red can because they think the Coke tastes different when it comes out of a white can.  Come on, now.  The contents inside didn’t turn into a diet soda just because of the can.  Can’t we just have fun with this new look through the winter and think about how we can do our part to not only protect the Artic polar bears but other animals who need us to be their voices, as well?  Now that’s something I can drink to!

There’s one more moral to this story:

You can’t judge a book by it’s cover!

As always, grab a Coke, and let me know what you think :)

Santa’s Going to Get the Details Tonight!

IMG_9444

Do you see a certain something in this kitchen that alerts one’s children that Christmas is near and Santa will be getting the scoop on the good boys and girls?

No, it’s not the lightsaber or Nerf gun on the kitchen.  It looks like we battle before breakfast!

Take a closer look.

IMG_9445

Aha!  It’s our little elf, Walker!  He’s here, and he gives the scoops to Santa every night.

Now, if you don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, you’ve got to get yourselves an Elf on the Shelf.  He (or she, if you’ve got girls) is the best little holiday tradition our family has.  That little trickster keeps my kids in line all month long!

(Hmmm…. maybe he should stick around all year… hehehe!)

Where’s your elf hiding today?
