I’m Embarrassed Because It’s Private

I love small-talk.  It’s delightful and interesting… until someone asks the question, “So, where do your kids go to school?” At that moment, I am instantly a little red-faced and almost embarrassed to give an answer. Why?

WWTTD?

what would tim tebow do
So, what’s the answer?

Now, you may ask, “What the heck are you talking about?  What’s the question? Isn’t that suppose to be WWJD?”

Well, if you are/were a Denver Broncos fan, you know exactly what the question is, but you may not know what the answer is.  I totally feel like I’m talking in circles right now!

I’m a Hoosier who can’t help but be a little sad about Peyton Manning leaving the Colts, but I’m happy for him to go to a great team.  Under the circumstances, though, it just feels wrong that the Broncos would let go of such an outstanding player and man, such as Tim Tebow, upon Peyton’s arrival.

So, What Would Tim Tebow Do?
I think he’ll do just as he’s always done… be a class-act who is great for the game no matter where he plays!

If you’re a Denver resident or just a fan of the Broncos from a distance, way in on this.
What do you think about the changes?
How is the city reacting?

Cooking + Cleaning = Good Wife… Are You Kidding Me?

Now pick your jaw up off the floor.

I bet you gasped when you read those, didn’t you?  I know I did.  I even said aloud to myself, “Oh, my gosh!”

I simply cannot imagine being a woman during the age when these kind of ads were prevalent.  Women must have felt like they were only good for cooking, cleaning, and looking beautiful.

Today, those kinds of ads would not be tolerated.  In fact, it would cause tremendous outrage across the board.  Why they were tolerated back then, I will never understand.

It just makes you so grateful for the women who came before us and made a difference in this country by putting their foot down on sexism.

Thank you, ladies, for making the world a better place!

Even though ads like those don’t run anymore, do you think sexism is still a real concern in this day and age?

What’s Yours Look Like?

NCAA bracketNCAA bracket (2)
Oh, how I love this time of year!
College basketball is so exciting when it’s NCAA Tournament time.  Everyone’s scrambling to get their brackets done and get them into “the pool.”

I like to fill mine out in a backwards way.  I start with the National Champions.  Of course, I put Louisville in that spot.  Then I work my way out.  Everyone usually scoffs at my picks, but that’s okay.  It’s all if the name of fun and basketball (wink, wink)!

How did you fill out your bracket?  What’s your strategy?

Pi Day shirt (2)
Pi Day shirt
The post title is fitting, right?
If you’re a geek, too, you will absolutely appreciate this little project, as tomorrow is Pi Day.

{We geeks like to celebrate numbers.  Pi is known as the number 3.14.  It is super special because it is a mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to it’s diameter. It goes on practically forever without repeating.}

So, March 14 is Pi Day, and I’m wearing this shirt all day tomorrow.

Happy Pi Day to all my fellow geeks out there!

Side note: Last year, I went to a blogger event called the Mint Julep Jaunt.  At lunch, we were all just talking about who we were, what we do, and where we blog.  When I said I had worked as a QC chemist for a pharmaceutical company in my pre-mommy and pre-blogging days, a gal I had just met, but who is now a friend, said, “Wow. I didn’t see that one coming.”

I wasn’t sure how to take that then, and I’m still not exactly sure what that meant.  Nevertheless, God made me exactly who I am, a multi-faceted woman who is a geek and proud of it.

It’s Not a Character Flaw

It was recently brought to my attention that our dear military may not be treated quite as fairly as they deserve.  A little birdy who is engaged to a military captain told me that they frown on soldiers taking anti-depressants.  Is this true… is it a policy?  I don’t know.

Please help me sort this out with some facts from you guys who are knowledgeable about this matter.  Are our soldiers provided with such medication if they are in need of it?  If a soldier is taking said medications, may they go to war?

Needing to take an anti-depressant is not a character flaw, it’s merely a matter of brain chemistry and whether or not specific neurotransmitters and receptors are working properly.

If one has the high blood pressure, he takes medicine for it.

If he has the flu, he takes medicine for it.

In my opinion, there is no difference between taking medication for an illness or any other part of one’s body that is just not functioning properly and taking anti-depressants for a chemical imbalance in one’s brain.

Tell me what you think and what you know to be true regarding this.

If it truly is frowned upon and has a stigma associated with it like it’s a sign of weakness to need an anti-depressant as a soldier, I’m feeling like I’ve got to do something to change this.

Devastation in Our Community

Just 6 miles from my home, there was devastation at it’s very worst experienced this past Friday.  As a tornado outbreak moved through the Southern Indiana and Kentucky, homes were ripped from their foundations and lives were forever changed.  Were it not for the grace of God, my family could have been caught right in the middle of it.  We hunkered down in our basement and watched the news as the forecasters alerted us of what areas would be hit next.  You expect the worse and pray for the best, but when it comes down to it, no one has control over it except the Lord.  I believe that my family and home were spared for a reason.  What the reason is… I can only begin to fathom.   We have each other, our health, and our home, and now it’s time to make a difference with what we have.
For to whom much is given, much will be required.
Luke 12:48
I know that the Lord spared us for a reason and now is calling us to do more, to make a difference, to be good stewards of our blessings.  If you feel led to help in the relief efforts with a financial contribution, you can go here to do so where 100% of your donations will go to those affected communities.  If you live locally and can help by giving of your time, let me know.

As a community, we will get through this.
We will be stronger than we ever thought possible.

If you have the means, use Lowes promos to save on supplies and go help out.

Made for Swimming

There are swimsuits… and then there are “swimsuits”.

I heart this Under Armour swimsuit and have to get one. It doesn’t look like your typical Speedo that the lifeguards wear; it’s stylish and practical.

So, because my dad has been nagging asking me to go the Y and swim laps with him, I feel like my usual “swimsuit” of choice (the one I wear to the beach and don’t swim in) will not work for actual swimming, as the tiny top and teeny bottoms along with those pesky strings will just not do the job {wink, wink}!

Do you ever see women swimming in an indoor pool with a skimpy bikini on?

It cracks me up!

This Will “Work”-out for Me!

Do you ever find yourself wanting to throw on some yoga pants or black spandex capris , a sports bra, tank, and tennis shoes when you have no intentions of going to the gym? I want to all the time because it takes less effort than planning out an outfit, but it just feels wrong. If feels like a charade, or sorts, and I’m sure no one else in the whole world would ever even care to question my ensemble.

However, don’t you just wonder when you see a gal at the mall in full-on workout clothes if she really came from the gym?  Sometimes, I do, but deep inside I’m thinking, “Ah, she looks really comfortable and sporty, and I wish I had on those tennis shoes instead of these boots that k-i-l-l my feet!”

Do you ever choose workout clothes for a sporty look when you’re not going for a workout?
